Bo Burns Joins Valent Professional Products as Aquatics Territory Manager

May 15, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.—Valent Professional Products announced that industry veteran Bo Burns has been hired as territory manager for the company's aquatics business.

Burns, who will be based in Raleigh, N.C., has nearly three decades’ worth of experience in aquatic and vegetative management. He most recently served as national aquatic sales manager for Crop Production Services (CPS).

In his new role with Valent Professional Products, Burns will be responsible for cultivating the company’s portfolio of solutions for aquatic plant management. That portfolio includes Clipper® Aquatic Herbicide and Tradewind® Aquatic Herbicide, which manage tough weeds such as cabomba, hydrilla, watermeal, duckweed and Eurasian watermilfoil. Clipper and Tradewind are available for use in bayous, canals, drainage ditches, fresh water ponds, lakes, marshes, reservoirs and in small ponds on golf courses and in commercial and residential landscapes.

“I’m going back to doing more of what I’ve done in the past, which is market development,” Burns said. “I’ve been in the aquatics industry directly or indirectly since 1985, and bringing new compounds to market has always been the best part of that.

“Valent is off to a great start with its aquatics business, and I look forward to continuing our momentum through support of Clipper and Tradewind."

A graduate of Hiram (Ohio) College, Burns went on to earn a master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University. An avid outdoorsman, he served as an environmental specialist for the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources before joining American Cyanamid as a market development specialist and, later, a vegetation specialist.

Burns then spent eight years as an aquatic specialist at SePRO Corporation and an additional six years at BASF Corporation as a vegetation and aquatic specialist before moving to CPS.

“Bo has a vast amount of experience in aquatics and industrial vegetation management, making him an ideal fit to lead our quickly growing aquatics segment,” said Dr. Mike Riffle, national sales and market development manager for Valent Professional Products. “His most recent stint on the distribution side provided Bo with a perspective that will help us even better serve our current and prospective customers.”
