Research Shows Long-lasting Broadleaf, Grass Control with Fierce™ Herbicide

Growers give high ratings to corn, soybean* herbicide

March 8, 2012

New data released by Valent U.S.A. Corporation reveals that growers who used Fierce™ Herbicide in field trials saw long-lasting control of broadleaves and grasses—as much as eight weeks. The positive results from the much-anticipated herbicide come at a time when university researchers are strongly recommending residual herbicides for a sound resistance management program.

In a series of crop destruct research field trials across 21 states in the 2011 season, growers, retailers and researchers reported that Fierce had excellent residual control of key weeds including: resistant Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, velvetleaf, common ragweed, common lambsquarters, morningglory, Pennsylvania smartweed and giant foxtail.

Fierce, a preemergence herbicide from Valent U.S.A. Corporation, just received EPA registration for no-till and reduced-tillage field corn; registration for soybeans is anticipated in time for the 2013 season.

Additional results from the trials included strong results in crop safety, grass control and broadleaf control:

  • 98 percent of respondents cited “Good” to “Excellent” for crop safety
  • 94 percent of respondents cited “Good” to “Excellent” control of grasses
  • 92 percent of respondents cited “Good” to “Excellent” control of broadleaves

Additionally, 100 percent of respondents cited that they were “satisfied” to “extremely satisfied” with the results of Fierce.

“The 2011 demo results confirm that Fierce is an excellent fit for growers with tough weeds and resistance issues,” said Trey Soud, Valent product marketing manager. “Fierce will give growers consistent, long-lasting control of broadleaves and grasses well into the season, giving growers the performance they expect from a premium herbicide.”

The new herbicide contains Valor® Herbicide, the most trusted product for broadleaf control in soybeans and a new active ingredient, pyroxasulfone. Fierce can be applied up to seven days before planting no-till or reduced-tillage field corn. Once registered on soybeans, Fierce can be applied up to three days after planting soybeans.
