Valent, Monsanto Roundup Rewards Program Now Includes Sugar Beets
June 1, 2009
Walnut Creek, Calif. and St. Louis, Mo. (June 1, 2009)—Valent U.S.A. Corporation and Monsanto Company announce the addition of sugar beets to the crops covered by the Volunteer Roundup Ready® Corn 2 Cost-Share Allowance Roundup Rewards® program.
The enhanced program grants farmers up to $3.90 per acre toward Valent’s Select Max® Herbicide with Inside Technology™ to control volunteer Roundup Ready Corn 2 in Roundup Ready® sugar beets—helping farmers achieve a strong yield for their crop.
“In 2009, we anticipate a rotation of Roundup Ready Corn and Roundup Ready Sugarbeets may be common for growers who plant both crops,” said Curt Uebele, Monsanto Roundup marketing manager. “Now through this program, sugar beet farmers will be able to use Select Max to quickly control any volunteer corn breakthroughs.”
Select Max—known for its fast control of volunteer corn, grasses and cereals—has been a part of the Roundup Rewards program for use on Roundup Ready soybeans, said Select Max brand manager Jamie Nielson.
“Select Max will effectively deliver the control sugar beet farmers need against volunteer corn and has excellent adjuvant and tank mix flexibility,” Nielson said. “The extension of the program to sugar beets will offer farmers the proven performance of Select Max on volunteer corn resulting in optimal yield potential.”
The Volunteer Roundup Ready® Corn 2 Cost-Share Allowance allows farmers to receive up to $3.90 per acre toward Select Max to control volunteer Roundup Ready Corn 2 in Roundup Ready sugar beets.
To gain the maximum value of the program, farmers should use a Roundup Ready RATE™ of Harness® or Degree® brand herbicides in corn, then follow with Roundup WeatherMAX in Roundup Ready sugar beets. This program will qualify farmers to receive up to $3.90 per acre in Roundup Rewards toward Select Max to control volunteer corn in Roundup Ready sugar beets.
However, sugar beet farmers can qualify for the program by using any of the four following herbicide programs:
- Roundup WeatherMAX® + Harness® (or other qualifying preemergence in your corn) + Select Max = $3.90/A
- Roundup WeatherMAX + Select Max = $2.60/A
- Roundup PowerMAX™ + Harness (or other qualifying preemergence in your corn) + Select Max = $2.60/A
- Roundup PowerMAX + Select Max = $1.30/A
